The shape of the bay protects it from strong ocean conditions, and Hawaii has claimed the bay as a Marine Sanctuary. The bay has rejoiced with huge schools of colorful fish, sea turtles, and a full living coral reef. This is the perfect place for snorkelers, swimmers, scuba divers and snuba divers alike to swim among Hawaii's diverse marine life.

Hanauma Bay is a volcanic crater which was active about 40,000 years ago. Years of erosion, and ocean has eroded the rim and allowed the crater to flood.
